Join Us Tomorrow for Napa Fishing Club and Learn from a Real Salmon Adventure
Join us tomorrow, Friday, July 17, at 6 PM for our next Napa Fishing Club meeting at Sweeney’s Sports.
This month’s featured presentation is:
Catch Fish, Don’t Die: Lessons from a Rough San Francisco Salmon Trip
Last week, we ran nearly two hours to the Point Reyes salmon grounds in rough seas. The party boats were there, but almost no small boats made the run. We were one of only two small boats out there.
We landed two beautiful salmon, missed two more, and learned a lot along the way.
At tomorrow night’s meeting, we’ll break down the trip and talk about what every salmon angler can learn from it: reading the conditions, making safe boat decisions, choosing salmon setups, adjusting when the bite changes, fighting barbless fish, and handling the chaos of a real net job.
Whether you fish from a boat, want to get into salmon fishing, or just love learning from real fishing stories, this will be a fun and useful presentation.

New Pond Stars Finds: Trade-Ins, Vintage Gear & JDM Reels
A Long Drive for the Right Rod
Roberto and Brandon made the drive from Livermore to Sweeney's Sports to trade in a Dobyns rod and put the store credit toward a new Phenix setup. After evaluating the rod, we agreed on $45 in store credit, giving Roberto a chance to upgrade while keeping another quality rod in circulation. Along the way, we also learned about Brandon's mobile detailing business, MBZ Detailing - another great example of local anglers supporting local entrepreneurs.
Hidden Treasures from a Lifetime of Fishing
One of the best parts of the Pond Stars program is never knowing what will come through the door. A recent collection from a retired angler included some fascinating vintage pieces, including a rare Lock Point collapsible gaff from San Francisco and a beautifully preserved Simmons knife made in Seki City, Japan during the 1970s or 1980s.
After doing some research, we discovered these weren't just old fishing tools—they're pieces of fishing history. Whether they end up in a collector's hands or on display in the shop, collections like this remind us that every piece of gear has a story worth preserving.
A JDM Shimano Twin Power Just Hit the Shelf
Every once in a while, a reel comes through the Pond Stars program that gets everyone's attention. This time, it's a JDM (Japan Domestic Market) Shimano Twin Power 3000 XG, a premium reel built in Japan and known for its smooth performance and exceptional quality. Aside from a few cosmetic blemishes, it's in great condition and ready for its next owner.
After a thorough inspection and cleanup, this Twin Power will be listed on our website at a great value. If you've been looking for a high-end JDM Shimano reel without paying new-retail prices, this is one you'll want to check out.
