What’s New from Daiwa for 2026 | Ballistic MQ, Luvias, Prorex & More
If you’ve been waiting to see what Daiwa has in store for 2026, you’re in for a treat. I just got back from the trade show floor where I had the chance to get hands-on with Daiwa’s brand-new lineup of reels and rods—and let me tell you, some of this gear is going to turn heads.
Reply to this email with the models you are most excited to see at Sweeney's. We are putting together the Daiwa order next week.
High-End Standouts
The Ballistic MQ ($239) stole the show, winning ICAST’s Reel of the Year. It features Daiwa’s new Air Drive design, a one-piece sealed MQ body, and Magsealed protection that keeps water and grit out of the reel. Lightweight, smooth, and strong—this one is going to be a favorite for trout and finesse anglers.
Another eye-catcher was the Luvias ($449), the lightest spinning reel Daiwa has ever made, paired with the Presso Air rod ($400) equipped with AGS carbon fiber guides. Together, they make one of the most refined trout combos I’ve ever held in my hands.
Mid-Range Workhorses
The Prorex MQ ($219) impressed with its black and purple finish and versatile performance, perfect for freshwater but capable of handling light saltwater duty.
For anglers who want power and smooth casting, the Kage 150 SV ($239) delivers with anti-backlash technology and Daiwa’s T-Wing system.
The Tatula 200 ($199) and Coastal 200 ($279) round out this range, offering plenty of line capacity for bass, stripers, and even shallow-water saltwater fishing.
Budget-Friendly & Beginner Options
Not every reel has to break the bank. The Aird 80 ($100) makes an excellent starter reel without sacrificing feel or durability.
The upgraded Tatula CT ($149) brings hyperdrive technology and Daiwa’s signature T-Wing system at an approachable price point.
Rods That Made Waves
It wasn’t just reels—Daiwa’s new Tatula Cork rods ($179) won ICAST’s Freshwater Rod of the Year. At 15% lighter than the previous generation and offered in 29 different models, these rods are already proving to be a hot seller.
Final Thoughts
From premium trout setups to entry-level reels that overdeliver, Daiwa’s 2026 lineup has something for every angler. Whether you’re chasing stripers on the river, trout in small streams, or bass on the lake, there’s a reel or rod in this lineup designed with you in mind.
I’d love to hear from you—which new Daiwa product are you most excited to try in 2026? Let us know, we are putting the order together next week.
Tight lines,
Alex @ Sweeney’s Sports
What's New in the Shop
Abu Garcia Max SX Spinning Reel
The Max SX Spinning Reel takes inspiration from the Revo and Zenon series of spinning reels, leveraging the asymmetric design, V-Rotor and V-Spool to give anglers a very compact, lightweight spinning reel. A 6+1 stainless steel bearing system and Rocket Line Management provide smooth operation and superior line management.

River2sea Whopper Plopper
The River2Sea Whopper Plopper 75 is a smaller profile version of Larry Dahlberg's classic Whopper Plopper series of topwater lures. Measuring just under 3 inches and weighing just over a 1/2 ounce, the Whopper Plopper 75 brings all the irresistible surface commotion of the Whopper Plopper in a tinier package.
It has a propeller-like tail that rotates, creating enticing rumbling and multi-octave "plopping" splashing noises that stand apart from the monotone noises emitted by other topwater lures. The tail is super tough and durable too and was specifically designed to be able to stand up to the harsh punishment that rocks, wood, and large freshwater gamefish can dish out.

Okuma ITX CB Spinning Reel
ITX CB was crafted based on JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) specifications with a focus on stability and high-performance, embodying the precision and attention to detail that Japanese engineering is known for.
Constructed with a lightweight and rigid C-40X rotor and TCA construction, the ITX CB spinning reel boasts an incredibly strong and durable body that can withstand tough conditions. The Flite Drive system enhances gear stability and smoothness, allowing for a seamless fishing experience. The multi-disk Carbonite drag washers with Hydro Block gasket ensure a smooth and consistent drag, while the A7075 spool shaft and key drag washers significantly reduce weight, making it easier to handle and cast. The ITX CB spinning reel comes equipped with 7HPB + 1RB High Performance, grease-packed bearings for unparalleled smoothness and precision. Additionally, the Cyclonic Flow Rotor Technology sweeps water away from the machined aluminum, super light anodized aluminum spool, minimizing corrosion.

Missile Baits Chunky D
The Chunky D is a new action craw bait ready to thump its way into the closest bass’ mouth. The 3.5” body is a thick craw shape with ribs on the bottom and flanges near the end of the D Bomb shaped flappers that create quite the thump when pulled through the water. The Chunky D is perfect to thread on a full-size jig as a heavy action trailer, rig Texas style for flipping, or put on a swing head for dragging on the bottom. Packaged in a clam, each Chunky D will be ready to kick like a mule no matter how you rig it. 6 baits come in each clam shell pack.

At Sweeney’s Sports in Napa, we’re now offering cash or store credit when you bring in your quality used fishing equipment as part of our growing Used Gear Buy Back Program. Whether you’re upgrading your setup, cleaning out the garage, or just want to trade unused gear for something fresh, we make it easy.
Why Trade In?
