The Pallets Are Unpacked: 10 Rods & Reels to Check Out at Sweeney’s
We have been getting our workout at Sweeney’s this week—and it has involved a lot of cardboard. Big shipments from Okuma, Daiwa and Pure Fishing have been checked in, priced and put out, bringing fresh arrivals and familiar favorites back to the racks. Here are five rods and five reels worth picking up on your next visit, whether you have stripers, sturgeon, the surf or trout on your mind.
Five rods for your next trip

Okuma Safyre Casting — A fresh option for striper plugs
$89.99
Working a swimbait or topwater for stripers? This new Safyre is worth a look. Its fast action and useful lure range suit casting from a boat or bank, and the two-piece design makes getting it there easier.
SF-C-722MHa — 7′2″ • 2-piece • medium-heavy, fast • 12–25 lb line • 3/8–1¼ oz lures

Manufacturer series photo; 8′6″ model shown.
Okuma Rockaway SP — Take a walk on the beach
$119.99
For anglers who would rather walk the beach and cast than watch a rod holder, this is an appealing surf option. Try it with striper plugs, metal lures or a surfperch rig, keeping the total casting weight within its rating.
RSP-S-1002M+ — 10′ • 2-piece spinning • medium-plus, moderate-fast • 10–20 lb line • ½–3 oz lures

Manufacturer photo.
Ugly Stik Tiger — Ready for the heavy work
$84.95
Sturgeon tackle needs backbone, and this Tiger brings it without a premium price tag. We would put it to work fishing bait from a boat, matched with a conventional reel and a rig suited to the current.
USTB3060C701 — 7′ • 1-piece casting • medium-heavy • 30–60 lb line

Okuma Celilo B — Small lures, big smiles
$37.99
You do not need to spend a fortune to enjoy trout fishing. This compact Celilo is a friendly choice for small spinners, spoons and light bait rigs—and an easy rod to bring along when a quick fishing stop turns into an afternoon.
CE-S-562ULb — 5′6″ • 2-piece spinning • ultralight, moderate • 2–6 lb line • 1/32–¼ oz lures

Fenwick Eagle Trout & Panfish — A little more finesse
$99.95
If trout fishing is becoming your favorite excuse to get outside, pick this one up. The graphite blank and comfortable grip make it a nice step up for light-line fishing with small jigs and spinners.
EGLT56UL-MFS-2 — 5′6″ • 2-piece spinning • ultralight, moderate-fast • 2–6 lb line
Five reels to put them to work

Daiwa BG LT 4000 — Keep casting for stripers
$179.99
The new BG LT belongs on the shortlist for anglers throwing lures for stripers. Its quick retrieve helps gather slack between casts and presentations, while the aluminum construction gives it a solid foundation for inshore fishing.
BGLT4000D-CXH — 4000 size • 6.2:1 retrieve • aluminum frame and body cover • AIRDRIVE rotor

Manufacturer series photo; larger 14000 model shown.
Daiwa BG SW 5000 — Built for saltwater days
$199.99
Heading for the surf or fishing the bay? The new BG SW adds a sealed frame and carbon drag to a familiar workhorse name. We would choose this one for heavier striper and surf duty where strength takes priority.
BGSW5000-H — 5000 size • 5.7:1 retrieve • 26.4 lb maximum drag • gasket-sealed aluminum frame

Abu Garcia C3 Striper — The name gives it away
$169.95
For bait-fishing stripers, a round reel still makes plenty of sense. This newly arrived C3 combines a levelwind, centrifugal casting brake and power handle—an inviting choice for anglers who like a traditional casting outfit.
C3-6500STPSPC — 6500 size • right-hand retrieve • 5.3:1 • 15 lb maximum drag • 4+1 bearings

Okuma Cavalla — An extra gear for sturgeon
$299.99
When a strong fish settles into a stubborn fight, a lower gear is welcome. This compact Cavalla is our upgrade pick for a sturgeon boat outfit: retrieve quickly in high gear, then shift down when you need more cranking leverage.
CAV-5IILX — Left-hand retrieve • two speeds: 6.4:1 / 3.8:1 • lever drag • 310 yd of 65 lb braid

Manufacturer photo.
Daiwa RZ500 — A little reel for trout trips
$44.99
This new ultralight Daiwa is a natural companion for the Celilo or Eagle above. It keeps a small trout outfit compact and affordable, with a folding handle that is handy when packing up for the next creek or lake stop.
RZ500 — 500 size • 5.2:1 retrieve • 4+1 bearings • folding aluminum handle
Come in, give a handle a turn and see how a rod feels in your hand. Tell us where you fish and what you like to throw, and we will help you put together an outfit that makes sense for your next day on the water.
