Napa River Fishing Report

The summer Striper bite is in full swing on the Napa River. We continued to get good reports this week! Trolling and casting in and around the levee breaks and sloughs has been really producing good numbers of fish with keepers and a few fish to 7-10lbs being caught. Rattle traps, Swimbaits, and hair jigs are working very well. If you haven't thrown a 3.8" or 4.8" Keitech Fat Swing swimbait you need to try it, Stripers love to eat them. Put them on an Underspin or just a regular 3/8 oz jig head. Try trolling with the jointed Wild Thing, we make them here at the shop. Fishing from the bank with cut Anchovies and Sardines is producing a bunch of schoolies with a few keepers mixed in. Try Live bait as always for a chance at a bigger fish.

We need to mention the Sturgeon bite again, only because we continue to hear of a few sturgeon being caught in the south end of the river. It might be worth soaking some shrimp down south! Please let us know if you have success!!

Lake Berryessa Fishing Report

Temps have been super-hot up the lake, and as a result, the bite has slowed down for now. Some of the hardcore guides have still been putting their clients on fish, but even they are struggling to get those bites. Most anglers are only getting 1-3 fish and covering a lot of water to find them. Trolling dodgers with hoochie spinners or spoons in 70'-100'+ depths are producing a few fish. The bass bite has also slowed down big time!! Anglers are getting out very early and late to produce only a few fish. Finesse tactics on the south end of the lake on the rock walls and main lake points in 20'-50' may be the best bite. The reports of the bait balls in the creek channels are all but gone. The dog days of summer are settling in here. The night bite for Catfish is still producing some really nice fish for those who are putting in their time. Cut Shad, Mackerel, or crawlers are top baits.

Lake Hennessey/Conn Dam

The summertime bite up here is overall pretty tough. However, we did get a few reports of a decent bass bite at the lake this week. Drop-shotting or split-shotting Robo Worms in MMIII or Red Crawler is producing a few fish. Try fishing offshore on the rock walls or rock piles as fish are moving to deeper depths. Crawdad pattern jigs, and deep cranks will also catch a few fish this time of year.

There is also a few Crappie being caught as well. Live minnows and crappie jigs in 15'-30' of water are catching a few random fish.

Ocean Salmon Action

The salmon bite off our coast continues to produce limits of fish! We did see the bite get tougher this week as fish are spreading out, and the windy conditions have made it interesting. However, party boats and private anglers are still catching them!!! We continue to try and stock your favorite lures and tray baits. Like last week we still have no Anchovy trays. We are stocking the red label herring which is a lot smaller in size and closer to the anchovies. We are hearing a lot of really good reports of a dodger and 4"-5" hoochie working well. We have hoochies in a few colors in stock now, and a few colors in the Wiggle Hoochie. The availability of the trolling cannon balls has been pretty low, we did get a small order of 2Lb and 2.5Lb balls this week. Come down Sunday-Wed and get a good report from Tom.
