Fishing Report

Napa River

The Napa River striper bite is holding steady. Anglers this last week caught fish even with dropping water temps with the colder weather we are having.  Seems like the numbers are going down but still some quality fish are being caught. Casting Swimbaits, Rattle Traps, and LV 500's remains the top way to catch stripers. Hitting the levee breaks and sloughs on outgoing tides is the ticket. Stripers will start to school up in the main river channel as water temps get colder. Trolling and covering water until you find the fish is another great way to catch them. Once you locate them make several passes around the area to pick up more fish.  Spooning the deeper holes in the sloughs and the main river channel will start to be a great way to produce Stripers. We are starting to get more frequent reports of sturgeon being caught in the river. It is time to start putting your time in trying to catch the river dinosaurs. A variety of baits will produce a Sturgeon this time of year.  We currently are carrying Salmon Roe, and preserved Ghost Shrimp.Watch the video of Alex and his friend trolling rattletraps this week:

Lake Berryessa

Lake Berryessa continues to be in a transition phase, going through its annual temperature turnover. Trout and King Salmon are being caught, but they are spread out throughout the lake. Look for bird activity on bait balls and start trolling around those areas near the surface to 40'. It's also time to start drifting live minnows!! If you need minnows, we have started to keep our minnow tank loaded with bait. The fall/winter bass bite continues to be good. We are getting plenty of good reports to back this up. A variety of methods and techniques catching them right now.  Spooning through the bait balls or throwing finesse baits around the bait is a solid producer this time of year. Cover shallow water with LV 500's, Spinner baits, Underspin's with Keitechs, and chatter baits can work well.
