|This week in Fishing
The striper action in our river remains the best action around. There is a lot of fish in the system right now, and anglers are having great action from the bank and boat alike. The bank anglers are still seeing a lot of schoolies with the occasional keeper mixed in. Cut or whole anchovies, or sardines are the best bet to catch fish. For a better chance at a better striper try fishing with live bait, mudsuckers, bullheads, or large shiners work well. This week we continue to stock minnows including a smaller supply of XL size shiners. The anglers trolling and casting a variety of baits including Rattle Traps, LV 500's, P-Line Predators, or Wild Things are still doing very well in the levee breaks and sloughs. Also, don't forget to troll the main river from the Hwy 29 bridge up into town! The southern end of the river is still doing ok for those anglers soaking bait for a mix of stripers, sturgeon, and Bat Rays. Keep the reports coming in, we love to hear from our customers.
Action up here continues to slow down. Most of the reports coming in are of anglers getting skunked or just catching 1-3 fish. Anglers that are catching kokanee and trout are trolling waters from the Narrows to the Big Island in 60'-100'. The key is getting out on the water and off by 10:00 am for any kind of bite. The bass anglers continue to struggle. Water temps are high and the water levels are dropping weekly. Get out there early and hammer the deeper rock walls and points with your favorite finesse techniques. Try a Neko Rig with a 3-4" zman or robo worm Neko for better action. The Catfish bite at night remains steady for those that are getting out there. Cut Shad, Mackeral, night crawlers, or good ole hot dog chunks are working for a few cats.
Austin and Alex (me) fished the Sacramento River out of Discovery Park again last week. One of the key things we are learning, doing this weekly, is getting on the water by 5:30am is important to optimize your bite opportunities this early in the season. Most, if not all of our bites came between 6:00am - 7:00am. Also, bouncing plugs while anchored produced the best results for us. We've had 3 bites, and got 2 fish in the boat today.
