Napa Fishing Report
Hot Ocean Salmon Bite-
The second half of the Ocean Salmon season is nothing short of spectacular. Anglers going out of the Golden Gate and Bodega Bay areas are catching limits with some giant salmon mixed in. This week the conditions have been awesome out there, with some anglers saying the ocean has been like a lake. Look for fishing to be really good, but the wind may come back up this next week. Regardless, this is some of the best salmon action we have seen in a while, with plenty of 20Lb plus being caught it's time to get out there. We are well stocked up on tray anchovies and herring! Need 2lb and 2.5lb trolling balls we have plenty, and you will pay less than buying them on the charter boat. We are also well stocked up on Rotary Salmon Killers, Apex Lures, and FBR's. Come in and ask Tom for recent hotspots and news.
Justin Franzi and Amanda Horne from Napa fished on the Salty Lady this week.
The bass bite continues to be pretty good for anglers finding the bait balls out there. Finesse techniques with Drop shotting Robo Worms, and nail-weighted Senkos, are both catching fish. The Trout and Kokane salmon bite is getting tougher going into the summer. Trollers need to be in 60-100+ feet to find fish. The Putah Creek channel, Big Island, and various spots in the Narrows to the Dam are still kicking out fish for those trying. We continue to be stocked up on all your trolling needs, spinners, hoochies, spoons, and a good variety of flashers. Ask Austin for techniques for summertime success.
The summertime bass bite is starting to be in full swing. Shallow areas up North are still holding fish in the weed beds, but fish are starting to pull offshore and move into cooler water. Anglers are catching fish on a variety of baits, try top water with frogs, buzz baits, chatter baits, and shallow cranks around weeds also working. The mid-lake and south areas are starting to kick out a bunch of fish. fish on rock walls, and points in 10-25 ft with finesse techniques to catch numbers of fish. The jig bite should start to produce on the deeper rock piles and walls. We are getting a few reports of a decent nighttime catfish bite on the south end of the lake. Try live jumbo minnows, cut shad, or mackerel.
Striper fishing on Napa River before work.
Today we are taking a quick Striper fishing trip on Napa River before heading into the shop. Our goal was to get a few hookups using only the equipment and lures from our Striper Fishing Kit. And we had just under 2 hours to do it.
We launched at Cuttings Wharf around 6:30am and made our way out to the sloughs toward Vallejo where we started trolling for stripers using various rattle traps and swimbaits, which are all part of our Striper Fishing Kit.
