Napa River meanders through downtown Napa, and forms a tidal estuary, entering Mare Island Strait, and eventually discharging into San Pablo Bay. The river holds a healthy population of Stripped Bass, and White Sturgeon, which are the most popular fish species to target. The water is brackish, and the best time to fish the river is with the incoming tide when cleaner, better-oxygenated ocean water enters the system. The tides also bring a variety of food sources for both Striper and Sturgeon.
